English translation: The exhibition also came to a building that had been closed for years
Valga architectural residency VARES organized a spring exhibition on Saturday and Sunday, presenting the work of artists gathered in the former school building. Among other things, we also visited the former district authorities' building, which has been empty for many years in the heart of the city, and which also housed a prison for a while.
The installation "Waba Wangla" created by the artist duo De Jenz could be seen in this large building in the historical city center of Valga. It is a work involving the community, which explores both the historical and contemporary features of Valga and Valka as border towns.
Together with Valga high school students, the artists searched for places with unused potential in the city, where they could create a gathering place for and with young people. A suitable place was found in the former district building, where the installation created uses pieces of plywood from the beds of the closed Pääsukese kindergarten, as well as mirrors that have been used to create large periscopes. [...] VARES Architecture Residency brings residents from all over the world to the building of the former distance learning high school in Valga. |
